Have you ever woken up, looked in the mirror and discovered a new pimple on your face?

Or tried several creams and remedies to get rid of pimples, only to find that more keep appearing?

You are not alone!

Pimples are common, especially among teenagers and young adults. However, adults can develop them too.

Let’s understand why they occur and how you can care for your skin.

๐Ÿ” What exactly are pimples?

Pimples are small bumps that develop when tiny openings in your skin, called pores, become blocked by oil and dead skin cells.

Sometimes, bacteria and inflammation contribute to the problem, causing red, swollen or painful pimples.

Pimples are one of the signs of a skin condition called acne.

๐Ÿค” Why do people develop pimples?

Several factors can contribute to pimples:

1. Hormonal changes

Hormonal changes, especially during puberty, can increase oil production in the skin. This is one reason pimples are common among teenagers.

2. Excess oil production

Your skin naturally produces oil to help keep it healthy. However, excess oil can clog pores and lead to pimples.

3. Family history

If your parents or close relatives had acne, you may be more likely to develop it too.

4. Certain skincare products

Some oily or pore-blocking products can worsen pimples in people who are prone to acne.

5. Some medicines and other factors

Certain medicines can trigger acne-like eruptions. Stress may also worsen existing acne in some people.

And here is something important: pimples are not necessarily a sign of poor hygiene. Washing your face excessively will not cure acne.

๐Ÿงด How can you care for skin with pimples?

Here are five simple steps you can start with:

1. Wash your face gently.

Use a mild cleanser twice daily and after heavy sweating. Avoid harsh soaps, rough scrubbing and repeatedly washing your face throughout the day.

2. Do not squeeze or pick your pimples.

This can worsen inflammation and increase the risk of dark marks and permanent scars.

3. Choose suitable skincare products.

Look for products labelled non-comedogenic, meaning they are designed not to block pores.

4. Be careful with home remedies.

Avoid applying toothpaste, lemon juice, bleaching mixtures or other irritating substances to your face. They may damage your skin rather than clear your pimples.

5. Seek appropriate treatment.

Effective acne treatments are available. Depending on the type and severity of your acne, a dermatologist may recommend creams, gels or oral medicines. Treatment often takes several weeks to show noticeable improvement, so patience is important.

โš ๏ธ When should you see a dermatologist?

Do not wait until your face is covered in pimples before seeking help.

Consider seeing a dermatologist if:

  • Your pimples are deep, painful or widespread.
  • You are developing dark marks or scars.
  • The pimples keep returning despite appropriate treatment.
  • Your skin condition is affecting your confidence or emotional well-being.

Early and appropriate treatment can help prevent long-term scarring.

โค๏ธ Remember this!

Having pimples does not mean you are dirty, and it is not something to be ashamed of.

Do not compare your skin with filtered photographs on social media.

Understand your skin. Treat it gently. Seek help when you need it.
